Sunday, Sept 27 Oxford Street

Late start, off to Oxford Street, lovely warm sunny day.

Went into Debenham's department store, Selfridges, Marks and Spencer, etc.

Lunch of mac and cheese, served with potatoes, green beans.  Good.  In Debenham's on the 6th floor.  Their escalators stopped working while I was there, one elevator was out of commission, leaving 2 elevators working.  Walked down 6 flights of stairs.  Overheard a couple of staff wondering if they were going to close the store because of this.

Lots of excellent selection of clothes, reasonable prices.  Notice different marketing... don't put all the coats, for example, in one area.  Displayed by designer/manufacturer... Still seeing white pants for sale, and other lighter summer items.  Did not buy anything, but would have liked to.

Sat outside Selfridges by the bus stop and watched people going by.  Fascinating.  Many Arab women wearing black (what Muslim women wear - go here for pictures and explanation),
including the covering of the face, leaving only the eyes visible.
